My dog is going to be animated

Hi. I have exciting news.

For the last few months, I’ve been working on an animated short film. It’s based on a comic I published in 2012 called My Dog: The Paradox.

I’ve teamed up with Imaginary Planet, an animation studio based out of Portland, Oregon. They do amazing work.

Historically, my experience working in Hollywood has been utter hell, so I decided to fund and produce this thing entirely on my own. No more outside interference, no more batshit notes, no more art direction from people who can’t draw, and no more endless Zoom calls with execs telling me how to be funny. This cartoon has not been diluted, disassembled, or fucked with. This is just the work of me and a handful of very talented people distilled into six minutes of animated joy about a very stupid, very lovable dog.

I chose My Dog: The Paradox because it’s very dear to me, but also because it’s short enough that I could use it as practice for larger film projects. For the past eight years, I’ve worked as a punch-up artist, writer, and storyboard artist on several big-budget animated movies, as well as being a showrunner on my own streaming series, but I’ve never worked as an animation director — I’ve always been either below or above that position, effecting minor changes doing punch-up or making sweeping decisions from above as a showrunner. For this project, I wanted to be right in the middle, right in the storyboards, right in the heart of it.

I’m excited to share it with you very soon.

If you want an email as soon as it’s available to watch, join my mailing list. My mailing list is free and I mostly just post comics. It’s how I let my fans know I’ve made something without an algorithm getting in the way because I’m trying to reduce my reliance on social networks.

Below are a few screenshots of My Dog: The Paradox in varying levels of completion. The first few are from the color script (a color script is a series of small paintings using to show the color, feeling, and progression of a story.)
The last few images are storyboards followed up with a few shots of completed animation in full-color.

Stay tuned. ❤️

P.S. join my mailing list so I can let you know when the animation is released.
