St. Anton, Austria is home to the largest ski area in the country, making it a popular winter destination. But its true beauty blooms in the summer, when countless wildflowers dot the jagged mountain sides.
There’s no better place to admire the summer bloom of St. Anton than at Sennhütte, a mountain hut and restaurant that’s been open since the 1980s. Still run by the same family, the Senns, this quaint retreat has become famous for its decorative cultivation of over 100,000 edelweiss mountain flowers.
On August 5, 2017, the collection was even recognized in the Guinness Book of World Record’s for the “the largest floral arrangement by number of blooms,” at 107,126 flowers.
The edelweiss collection is part of The Wonder Walking Trail, a walking path constructed and cared for by the Senn family that takes visitors through their stunning property. The interactive trail features a diverse array of plants and herbs, including over 1000 different types of alpine herbs and includes stops at a Magic Forest and even a Tree House.
The Walking Path’s center-piece is the edelweiss bloom, arranged in the shape of a giant edelweiss. Visitors are invited to sit among the arrangement of flowers in a collection of lounge chairs.
